Originally, before it was launched Nintendo showed the console and the Wii Remote in white, black, silver, lime green, and red. However those plans for a multi coloured system were shelved and has only been available in white for its first two and a half years of sales. Black systems were made available in Japan in August 2009, in Europe in November, 2009, and in North America on May 9, 2010

The Black Nintendo Wii Console was originally only sold as a limited edition games console that would be available just for 2009.
