Wii Fit Accessories and games used in US gyms to tackle child obesity- 24/03/10
As you have seen in the news written here, more and more schools and old people’s homes are using the Nintendo Wii Fit accessories and games to keep them active and healthy. But now the Americans are using the Wii Fit games to tackles the ever growing problem of child obesity.
Local gyms are using child fitness programmes to help reduce the high number of obese children using programmes such as kid body pump and kid Pilates to help them get active and lose weight. These are obviously instructor led programmes but on days that classes aren’t held, the children use Wii Fit games and the Wii fit accessories such as balance boards and aerobic weights to engage in more exercise and help them stay fit in a fun and unique way.
Wii Fit Accessories and game launch a campaign to show partnership with the Change4Life scheme-16/03/10
The Wii Fit game by Nintendo is set to be the backdrop of a new campaign launched by the console makers to promote its partnership with Change4Life and show how we can live a healthy life with the game and the Wii Fit Accessories that accompany it such as the popular balance board.
Change4Life is a government campaign that aims to get people interest in healthy lifestyles and eating well. The Wit Fit Plus is the first computer game to win approval from the Department of Health’s campaign and means that the games now carry the logo on the box from the campaign.
The new campaign will be launched this week with a month long TV operation promoting the Change4Life healthy living messages plus they will be touring the Country with the same message and encouraging users to use the games and the Wii Fit Accessories to make a healthy change to their lives.
The Nintedo Wii Fit Console could save the NHS £1bn! 15/03/10
As mentioned in a recent blog post, using Nintendo Wii Console for Old People’s Homes, we stated that more and more Nursing Homes were utilising the Wii to keep the residence active mentally and physically and now it is estimated that the NHS could save £1bn by using the Wii Console!
The NHS and social services estimate that they spend £1billion on treating elderly people who have fallen. The Daily Record today reported that if older people used the console, then they were less likely to fall over and cause themselves injury, which subsequently means that they can easily become depressed. Obviously both of these predicaments need to be treated by the NHS meaning that the Nintendo WIi Console can save money!
The ever talented Olympic medallist turns his attention to a Shaun White Skateboarding Wii Game-10/03/10
The game makes behind Your Shape and Shaun White’s snowboarding game have announced that they plan to use the Olympic Gold Medal winner to make a Shaun White Skateboarding game as well. White, the only athlete to win gold medals in both skateboarding and snowboarding said “I can’t describe how excited I am about the skateboard game. We’ve been working on it for a while now and it’s ready to melt minds.”
Currently in development, this awesome athlete’s latest line of video games is due to hit the US later this year, with no plans yet to releases in the UK. Ubisoft have actually given very little away about what the game will entail, but they have said it would “provide an innovative twist and fresh take on the skateboarding and action-sports genre.”
It is unconfirmed whether the Shaun White series of snowboarding games will be releasing another title this year, but the last of his titles got rave reviews on the Wii platform but wasn’t so popular on the Xbox or PS3. Stick with the best titles on the best consoles and you will be fine!
The Million mark club for the Nintendo Wii 02/03/10
Whoever thought that third party games can’t be successful on the Nintendo Wii is about to be proven to be very wrong as Nintendo revealed last week at an American press gathering that 76 Wii Games have now sold more than 1 million copies! The important thing to note from this is that only 22 games of the 76 are first party titles meaning that 54 are third party titles which have sold in excess of a million copies.
On another note but still keeping the theme million based, the Wii Console hit the 10 million unit sold milestone in Japan, nearly 170 weeks after it was launched. Research firm Enterbrain said that 10,009,736 units had been sold and the only console to reach the milestone faster in Japan was the PS2 which sold more than 10 million 10 months quicker.
Corr-Wii-Nation Street! 26/02/2010
What great news for me and many other millions of Corrie and Wii Console fans, as ITV have agreed to turn Coronation Street into a game! A deal has been brokered with Nintendo by the bosses at ITV to make a game for the Wii Console marking the soap’s 50th Anniversary this year.
If it goes ahead, then there is a possibility that the old classics from the Street such as Elsie Tanner and Hilda Ogden would be playing alongside current characters like Rosie Webster and good ol’ Deirdre! The game would work by making the character from Corrie move by waggling and moving the hand held controllers, but this is a bit of speculation regarding how the game will work, as the format and style of the game are not expected to be revealed until later this year.
I, for one, can’t wait to make Norris walk into walls and dodge cars
New Wii Accessories for the Tiger Woods Games-25/02/2010
Whilst it seems the rest of the world are tutting at Tiger Wood’s and his ‘transgressions’ it seems like EA Sports has overlooked them (could be the contract he is tied into with them!) as they recently announced that they are to release a line of Wii Accessories for the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and then subsequently the yet to be released, but planned for June, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11.
The Tour’s will be paired up with some 36 inch golf clubs so whilst everyone else may be hiding the best crockery and taking shelter behind the sofa, Tiger Woods Wife might be polishing up her swing for a virtual crack at her wayward husband!
EA Sports are also planning to release a tennis racquet for the EA Grand Slam Tennis plus a baseball bat for the American Titles it has and it is thought that all this new accessories will attach to the Wii Remote plus some will include support for the Wii Motion Plus.
There is no set date as to when EA are to release these accessories, but seeing that the Tour 11 is expected in June, I can imagine that it will be sometime close to that, so watch this space!
New Batman Game for the Wii Announced-24/02/10
Warner Bros. will release a new Batman video game this Autumn but it’s not the Arkham Asylum sequel! It’s actually a new game based on the animated series of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The Brave and the Bold is an animated TV series in which various DC comic book heroes team up to fight crime.
The game not only features Batman and Robin but also but also features cooperative mode, allowing players to fight a myriad of villains as the Dark Knight or other DC Comics heroes including Robin and Green Lantern. Additionally, connectivity between the DS and Wii versions will be available, which means that someone with the DS version can take control of the ’Bat-Mite’ as a playable character in the Wii game!
